charlestonwx.com owes its existence to social media. Our goal is to provide timely, relevant information over many social media channels in cooperation with the National Weather Service and other media outlets in the Charleston area. We rebroadcast National Weather Service reports in addition to reports sent in from the public over social media channels.
There are two ways to get Charleston Weather updates over Twitter:
- @chswx – automatically tweets forecasts every three hours. Weather advisories are tweeted here, and severe weather situations are live-tweeted when conditions warrant. We recommend following this bot for the most complete information.
- @CharlestonWX – automatically tweets forecasts every three hours. This is a very low-traffic bot — no advisories or live-tweeting of severe weather will happen here.
Identi.ca
Follow @chswx on Identi.ca for updates on hazardous weather conditions, including live-tweeting of severe weather events. Forecasts are not yet available, but we’re working on that.
FriendFeed
Subscribe to Charleston Weather on FriendFeed for forecasts, live severe weather updates in real-time, storm pictures from the Charleston Weather operators and the public, and any tweet hashtagged with #chswx. This is the most complete aggregation of citizen-generated Charleston weather information. The FriendFeed group is open to contribution directly from FriendFeed as well. We welcome your photos, comments, likes, and accounts of weather in Charleston!
The #chswx Hashtag
Tag your Charleston weather-related tweets with #chswx to be aggregated together in FriendFeed and other areas (coming soon). This is a primary method of citizen reporting monitored not just by the Charleston Weather operators but also by all the major media outlets (including Live 5 News and WCBD’s Storm Team) in the Charleston area.
